The Subsidized Child Care Program is a locally administered program that uses State, Federal, and Smart Start funds to assist families with the cost of child care. Families receiving financial assistance are free to choose the child care arrangement that best meets their needs.
Presently, Southwestern Child Development Commission contracts with several Department of Social Services. As part of the contracts, SWCDC employs Child Care Subsidy Specialist to meet with families and determine eligibility. Also, provided through a Subsidy Administration Contract is reimbursement services and training and technical assistance to child care providers about the subsidy and subsidy reimbursement system. In Region A, SWCDC contracts with more than 130 child care programs to participate in the child care subsidy program and more than 150 in Buncombe County participate in the subsidy system as well as Madison County.
Southwestern Child Development Commission’s staff includes expertise in subsidy and reimbursement policy planning, subsidy policy administration, reimbursement policy administration, and training and technical assistance skills for working with child care providers.
